SPEEDO LEAGUE 2007 - 13th October @ Hertfordshire Sports Village
A great nights swimming from all clubs. Thanks to the officials, especially the referee’s who kept the gala flowing in about 2 hours. The AOE worked great apart from the slight delay at the beginning.
UK CHALLENGE 2007 - 19th & 20th May @ Hertfordshire Sports Village
What a great weekends swimming.......and we even booked the weather for everyone. With 29 new competition bests and a British Junior Record care of Adam Harrington from Crawley SC in the men's 200m Backstroke heats in a time of 2:02.17.
After the cancellation of the relays and requests from quite a few clubs attending we decided to add in a ‘A’ final for the 200m events to run with the ‘A’ & ‘B’ finals in the 100s and 50s. We hope this was acceptable for everyone, after all our aim is to give the swimmers as many chances as possible.
We would especially like to thank all our officials as without them these meets would not happen, but a special mention for our lead referee Jane Evans and referee Craig Hunter for their flexibility during the whole meet to accommodate as many swimmers as possible.
I would also like to thank our commentators Mr Nick Juba Jeff weinstein for their relentless babble (sorry comentry) throughout the meet, as sitting in the AOE room all weekend I really do wonder who or what they are talking about? Hopefully it keeps you informed and entertained. Also to my son Christopher for the faultless operation of the timing equipment and scoreboard (big toy) and to Barbara Scorer our club chairman for bringing it all together.
I hope you had a safe journey home especially Plymouth, 4 hours driving after a full day on poolside.
SPEEDO LEAGUE FINAL 2007 - 22nd April 2007 @ Ponds Forge, Sheffield
Well five must be our lucky number apart from number one of course . Hatfield have come 5th at the Speedo National Finals in 1980, 1997, 2004, 2005 & now 2007 with the exception of National League Champions last year. Not a bad achievement from a club of about 240 swimmers. Some say we were lucky to be there and perhaps we were.
Congratulations must go to Stockport Metro for a commanding performance but being chased all the way by Plymouth Leander and Mlllfield. The full results were:
1 Stockport Metro SC 409
2 Plymouth Leander SC 385
3 Millfield School 349
4 Bracknell & Wokingham 293
5 Hatfield SC 268
6 City of Salford SC 247
7 Ipswich 242
8 Guildford City 224
9 Lincoln Vulcans SC 170
10 City of Coventry SC 165
Hatfield again won the BEST SUPPORTERS AWARD (last time 2005). It was good to see all 10 lanes in use which made for some really close races. Although we only won 2 races, Cara Purvis in the 15 & under 100m free and the girls 6x50m squadron, everyone swam really well with a few surprise results.

Once again many thanks to all our officials for making the meet run so smoothly and my apologies for a few hic-ups with some empty lanes in the girls 100m freestyle. The results are now posted here in session order.
