EAST REGION LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS REPORT
UEA Pool, Norwich. (50m) 4th & 5th November 2006
A team of thirty swimmers from Hatfield Swimming Club attended the East Region Winter Championships held at The U.E.A pool in Norwich.
Jonathan Quinn (16) was the most successful Senior Male swimmer winning five gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m Freestyle events and also the 200m Breaststroke. Jonathan also won two bronze medals in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke
Katie Ambridge (16) was top of the Senior Female swimmers winning four gold medals in the 100m and 200m Fly, 100m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley events. Katie also won silver in the 50m Fly. Annie-Louise Knapman was the only other Senior Female swimmer to win a medal taking home a bronze in the 100m Backstroke. .
Aaron Galvani was the most successful Junior Male swimmer taking home three gold medals in the 400m, 800m and 1500m Freestyle races , Aaron also won a bronze in the 100m Fly. Ceri Unwin was top Junior Female swimmer, she won gold in the 100m, 200m and 400m Freestyle events and also a silver in the 400m Individual Medley.
Other medal winning Senior Male swimmers included Bret Ferguson (Gold 800m Freestyle, Silver 200m, 400m and 1500m Freestyle), John Sargent (Gold 100m Backstroke, Silver 200m and 50m Backstroke), Bradley Neal (Silver 50m Fly), James Allchorne (Silver 200m Individual Medley), and finally Bobby Cave (Bronze 200m Breaststroke).
Medal winners in the Junior competition were James Lockyer (15) who won silver in the 100m and 200m Freestyle and a bronze in the 50m Freestyle, James Sutherland (14) silver in both the 50m backstroke and Fly plus also a bronze in the 100m Backstroke, Adam Maxwell (14) was awarded silver in the 50m Breaststroke and bronze in the 200m Freestyle and finally Sean Brown took home a silver in the 200m Fly and Callum Candy a bronze in the 800m Freestyle.
Hatfield Swimming Club topped the medal table with 23 Gold, 20 Silver and 12 Bronze medals a total of 56, 29 ahead of nearest rivals Ipswich.

The East Region also awarded Hatfield Swimming Club ‘The Jeff Cook Salver’; this is awarded to an individual or a team that has achieved something outstanding during the previous year. The award was made to Hatfield because of their achievement in winning the National Speedo League (the first London based club to achieve this) and also for being the top Youth Club at the 2006 Nationals. Chief Coach Nick Juba accepted the salver on behalf of the team said “it has been an excellent years swimming and all the Team members deserve this award as recognition for all their hard work throughout the year”
