The new University of Hertfordshire DeHavilland campus in Hatfield on the site of the former British Aerospace site which itself was the birthplace of the jet airliner in 1949 with the construction and maiden flight of the Comet jet airliner.
Construction of the £120 million university site was started in 2001 and the whole complex and opened in 2003 with the £15 million Sportsvillage opening its doors on 22nd August 2003
