UK Challenge 2005 - 21st & 22nd May, Hertfordshire SportsVillage
Once again a high quality meet with some of the top clubs from around the country. Again a very strong contingent from PLYMOUTH LEANDER who had a very good meet (hope you all had a safe journey home).
We had 4 new BRITISH RECORDS (3 of which were WORLD RECORDS and a EUROPEAN RECORD)
In the first session on Saturday Gareth Duke from SWIM SWANSEA broke the British and World records for the 50m & 100M Breaststroke in the same race for the S4 class. In the first 50 of the race he shaved 0.89 off the record and then for the 100 took a whopping 2.66 seconds off in a time of 1:30.47.
Then in the second session former Hatfield swimmer Jody Cundy who has now moved to Swim Swansea broke the British and European record in the S10 100m fly taking 0.59 off to finish in 1:0016.
And finally Liz Johnson also from Swim Swansea broke the British and World record in the SB6 200m breaststroke by taking a massive 24.0 seconds of the former world record of 4:02.16 to finish in 3:38.16
(ALL these records are subject to ratification from the IPC)
A very big thank you to all our OFFICIALS, many of whom had no swimmers for their fantastic effort over the 2 days especially our lead referee Jayne Evans and the visiting officials from other clubs without whom we would of not had a meet, again Thank You.
Thanks to all the Hatfield helpers on the entry desk, awards table, signing in desk, our food ladies (most enjoyable) Our commentators Nick Juba and Jeff Weinstein, our Music man Mr Galvani, and Barbara Scorer for all the other jobs no one else does.
Again many thanks to John George for entering the entries and Teresa George for checking them and Mary Thomas for making all those phone calls arranging our officials.
And Finally, I know I say it after every meet but it is team work what brings these meets together so Thank You to John George for assisting me on Saturday to run the meet and for running it himself on Sunday with me assisting and last but not least my son Christopher for running the electronic timing and that scoreboard (just a big toy really) I hope it keeps you informed and amused sometimes.
Hope you all had a good & enjoyable meet
